AQUAMARINE - information

Aquamarine belongs to the family of beryl. It consists of a beryllium-aluminum-silicon compound. the addition of iron, chromium and magnesium results in its blue color. There are also greenish and dark blue varieties of aquamarine stones. aquamarine can be found in Brazil, Nigeria, the United States and Afghanistan. It was named after the color of the sea water, which means "aqua marina" in Latin. Even in ancient times, aquamarine was a popular decorative and protective stone. It was worn on the neck as a symbol of purity, love and marital fidelity. From the Greeks, aquamarine gemstones were known as "treasure of mermaids" and were believed to protect ship passengers.
